But it's definitely a habit thing - being around others can be exhausting when you're used to your own space. I tried living in a student corridor after having lived on my own since I was 16; it was an utter failure of course.<br /><br />Anyway, your post on the VS was not too lengthy - you have to remember I spent a 17 000-word dissertation on it. ;-) Not on knitting though. Yes, virtuous is a good word. You're productive and shielded from any naughty stuff at the same time. I guess, also, that every generation/era has to reinvent crafts for themselves, to make them socially acceptable. As you said, virtuous just don't sell that well today.
