Ruokalappu kummipojalle - A quilted bib for nephew

Sew? I knit!* -blogin tämänhetkinen projekti on 'a quilted item'. Minun panokseni on tilkkuruokalappu kummipojalle. En ollut varma, saisinko mitään aikaan deadlineen mennessä, mutta halusin tehdä jotain pientä ja helppoa. Ruokalappu oli oikein hauska tehdä, lukuunottamatta vinokantin ompelemista. En ollut koskaan aiemmin ommellut sellaista, ja suhtauduin ajatukseen pelolla. Enkä ollut väärässä: vinokantti on paholaisesta! Yrityksistä ja harsimisesta huolimatta en saanut siitä molemmilta puolilta yhtä siistiä (täytyy muistaa ostaa se ratkoja). Lopuksi päätin, että saa kelvata: en halunnut pilata projektin muuten tuomaa iloa ratkomalla sitä taas uudelleen.

The current project for sew? I knit!* -blog is a quilted item. This is my quilted item: a bib for the nephew. Not sure if I was going to make the deadline, I wanted something small and easy to make. I`ve been thinking of patchwork for a while now, so I was eager to sew this, and it was really fun to make - except for the bias tape. I`ve never sewn bias tape before, and always have been a bit afraid of doing it. And now I know: indeed bias tape is evil! No matter how hard I tried, I didn`t get it to look good on both sides. (Note to self: buy a seam ripper.) In the end, I decided it was good enough, not wanting to spoil the joy I got from this project.





Ostin ruokalappua varten vain raidallisen kankaan, muut ovat varastosta. Suosikkini on tuttu jänis ja auto -kangas, joka on nyt melkein loppu. Halusin toisesta puolesta erilaisen, joten ompelin sille puolelle vain kolme ympyrää. Jälki voisi olla huolellisempikin, mutta en halunnut stressata hirveästi tämän kanssa - sitäpaitsi olen alistunut siihen, etten koskaan saa siskon ompelukonetta (joka on pitkäaikaislainassa luonani, kiitos sisko) tekemään juuri niin kuin haluan. I only bought the striped fabric for the bib, others are from my stash - my favourite is the bunny-and-car -fabric, which is now almost used up. I wanted the other side to be different, so I just sew three circles of fabric on that side. I know it could be more meticulously done, but I didn`t want to stress, plus I`ve resigned to the fact I´ll never get 'my' sewing machine to do exactly what I want (the machine is sis`, only I`ve borrowed it for a long time - thanks, sis!). Tässä ruokalappu kummipojan kaulassa - malli oli niin innostunut ettei malttanut pysyä paikoillaan. Tajusin vasta myöhemmin että raitakangas käy yksi yhteen pojan uuden Stokke-syöttötuolin tyynyjen kanssa. Jotain kadehdittavaa vauvakavereille?

Here`s the bib modeled by it`s cute-but-too-excited-to-stay-still recipient. I only now realised the striped fabric matches the cushions on nephew`s new Stokke high chair. He`ll be one chic baby.




Those of you who read the English part! Is this green on green - text impossible to read? On my screen it looks ok, but I thought I´d ask others, since I hate difficult to read -sites myself.

*Muistatte ehkä, että olin osallitumassa sew? I knit! -blogin edelliseen projektiin, joka oli topin ompelu. Olette ehkä myös huomanneet, ettei topista ole kuulunut mitään. Aioin oikeasti tehdä sen, mutta ensin en löytänyt mieleistäni kangasta, ja sitten muu elämä meni topin ompelemisen ohi. (Minulla on kangasta, ihan erilaiseen toppiin, jonka toivottavasti saan jossain vaiheessa tehtyä.)

*As you may remember, I was participating in sew? I knit! -blog`s previous project, sewing a top. You may have also noticed there`s been no mention of the top in my blog. I really wanted to make it, was going to, but first didn`t find a fabric I liked. After that - let`s just say life interfered. (I do have fabric bought, for an entirely different kind of top, and hopefully will sew that, sooner or later.)
