2007

Hope you`re having a good first day of the year.

I spent the new year`s eve baby-sitting instead of going to the party I`d been invited to. Sounds worse than it was, really: after a week having constantly someone to talk with and five hours in a train, I didn`t feel like meeting a large group of people I didn`t know, (I sound like such a bore. Well, I guess I am. Plus I`m so used to having my own solitary space that a week spent having company all the time makes me exhausted in a way.) and instead offered to spent the nigt with nephew so sis and bil could go to their party without the baby. And I had a good night, playing with nephew and watching a movie.

Mmm.

Tonight I think there`ll be another movie and knitting for me. And a piece or two of Mum`s date cake (which is delicious, I don`t know why she bakes it only for Christmas), and maybe a glass of port. Yeah.

Onnellista vuotta 2007!
Olkoon se hyvä vuosi.

I won`t be posting a list of FO`s (I think it wouldn`t make me feel accomplished - more like UNaccomplished) or anything deep and meaningful about ends and beginnings (somehow I fail to feel that way about the 1st of January). I just wish you all

A very happy year 2007!

May it be a good one.

(Valokuva on otettu viime vuoden tammikuussa. Tänä vuonna ei taida päästä jäälle Kaivopuiston rannasta...)
(The photo was taken in January 2006 - I guess there won`t be any walking on ice this year.)

Personally I find that people who need to be surrounded by others all the time are usually quite unimaginative and, ultimately, boring. But it's definitely a habit thing - being around others can be exhausting when you're used to your own space. I tried living in a student corridor after having lived on my own since I was 16; it was an utter failure of course.

Anyway, your post on the VS was not too lengthy - you have to remember I spent a 17 000-word dissertation on it. ;-) Not on knitting though. Yes, virtuous is a good word. You're productive and shielded from any naughty stuff at the same time. I guess, also, that every generation/era has to reinvent crafts for themselves, to make them socially acceptable. As you said, virtuous just don't sell that well today. Not overtly, anyway.
