Sisua ja säihkettä - Guts`n glitter

Jos olet menossa syntymäpäiville lauantaina ja huomaat keskiviikkona, ettei sinulla ole lahjaa, mitä teet? Päätät tietenkin neuloa jotain päivänsankarille! ...Olisin ehkä tehtävästä, jos olisin ollut töissä vähemmän, huomannut aiemmin että ensin kokeilemani malli ei toimi ja/tai lanka ei olisi loppunut. (Onneksi minulla oli varasuunnitelma lahjan suhteen.)


When you`re going to a birthday party on Saturday and realize on Wednesday you haven`t got a gift yet, what do you do? Why, decide to knit something for the birthday girl, of course. Well, I might have made it if I`d had more knitting time and less work, noticed that the first pattern I tried didn`t work and/or hadn`t ran out of yarn. (Luckily I had plan B.)


Tein tämän hatun P:lle, jonka synttärit olivat jokin aika sitten. Hattu valmistui ja kuvattiinkin jokin aika sitten, ja on jopa lähetetty P:lle, mutta bloggaaminen on tietokoneettomuuden takia viivästynyt. Alun perin halusin tehdä bibon, mutta niin paljon kuin tykkäänkin mallista, se ei ole sopiva käyttämälleni langalle. Nurjat silmukat eivät tuo kimallusta kovin hyvin esille - langassa ON glitteriä, vaikkei se kuvista juuri näykään. Lisään kuvan langasta kun voin.*


I made this hat for my friend P, who had her birthday a while ago - the hat was also finished and photos were taken a while ago, and now the hat is even sent to her, but due to my lack of (working) computer I`m blogging it only now. Originally I wanted to use this pattern by Laura (scroll down), but pretty as it is, it didn`t seem to suit this yarn. All those purled stitches just don`t show off the glitter in the yarn - there is glitter, even though you can`t see it in the pics. I`ll post another photo of the yarn when I`ll be able.*

Lanka on vaaleanpunaista Sandnes Sisu Glitteriä, jonka ostin jo joskus alkuvuodesta, kun aioin virkata hatun samalle P:lle. Onneksi Menitasta löytyi vielä samaa värjäyserää, tosin jos en olisi joutunut heittämään pois pätkää, jonka ensin virkkasin ja sitten purin eikä ollut enää neulottavaa, olisin selvinnyt yhdellä kerällä. Nyt minulla on taas melkein kokonainen kerä lankalaatikossa, 44 g. Ei se mitään, koska minusta tuntuu, että tarvitsen itsekin vaaleanpunaista kimallusta - niin omituiselta kuin se tuntuukin.


The yarn is Sandnes Sisu Glitter in pink. I had yarn in my stash, bought earlier this year when I intented to crochet a hat for the same P (but for some reason never finished). Fortunately I found a skein in the same dye lot from my lys. Though if I hadn`t had to throw away a bit of the yarn I`d crocheted and frogged before, one skein would have been enough - now I have 44 grams left, almost a full skein. Never mind, because -shocking as it is- I might need a glittery pink hat myself.

Halusin käyttää juuri tätä lankaa, koska P pitää sekä vaaleanpunaisesta että glitteristä. Myös langan nimi sopii: 'sisu glitter' on P pähkinänkuoressa.
Kavennuksien suhteen olin epävarma, keksin ne neuloessani (muistattehan että olen aloittelija). Lopputulos on kuitenkin ihan hyvä, hattu istuu tarpeeksi napakasti muttei liian.


I wanted to use this yarn, because P likes both pink and glitter, and the name of the yarn suits her too: in Finnish, 'sisu' means something like having perseverance and guts, lots of. Combined with 'glitter', well, that`s P in a nutshell for you.
I wasn`t so sure about the decreases, which I just made up while knitting - I`m a knitting novice, remember? But they turned out ok: the hat is snug but not too snug, just as I wanted.







*Tietokonehuoleni ovat ohi (toivottavasti), koska isin ja äidin suosiollisen lainan ansiosta minulla on uusi läppäri (JIHUU!!!). Entinen tietokoneeni oli käytetty ja sillä oli monia ihmisen ymmärryksen ylittäviä inhottavia tapoja, joten on ihmeellistä, kun omistaa tietokoneen joka mm. käynnistyy heti kun painan käynnistymisnappia (huom. loistava tietokonesanaston hallinta!). Kuvat on vielä vanhan koneen kovalevyllä, ja osa siskon koneella, joten menee hetki ennen kuin saan lankakuvat.


*My computer woes are over now (hopefully), since I`ve had a brand new lap top for a few days (YAY!!!) - thanks for the loan, Mum and Dad. After hand-me-down computer which had many evil ways, none of them known to man, it`s like a dream to have one which e.g. actually starts the first time you push the button. My photos are still on the old computer`s hard drive, and some on sis`computer, so it`ll take a while since I´ll be able to post the yarn photo.
