Lontoo kutsuu, valitettavasti ei minua vaan näitä Fetching-kämmekkäitä. Ne lähtivät synttärilahjaksi ystävälleni S:lle. Tämä on kolmas pari jonka olen neulonut, ja saa pysyä viimeisenä ainakin jonkin aikaa. Valitsin tämän mallin taas kerran, koska helmikuussa oli useammatkin synttärit ja ajattelin, että tuttu malli valmistuu nopeasti ja päätyy saajalleen ajoissa. No, ei ollut ajoissa, mutta arvelen, että jollain muulla mallilla neulotut olisivat olleet vielä enemmän myöhässä. Nyt lahja meni perille kun on vielä riittävän kylmä.* Myöhästymiseen vaikutti ongelmat koon (S:llä on pienemmät kädet kuin minulla) kanssa, mutta säästän teidät koko tarinalta.
*Tiedän kyllä, että Lontoossa on kevät ja krookukset kukkivat. Mutta arvelen, että S saa käyttää kämmekkäitä vielä pari kuukautta. Olen palellut Englannissa toukokuussa - sisätiloissa!
Not me, unfortunately. But a pair of Fetching was sent to London. They were a birthday present for my friend S, and the last pair of Fetching I`m knitting, at least for a while. As I told you before, February had me busy with birthdays, so I chose to be un-adventurous and knit the third version of the same pattern, thinking I`d get them done in time. Well, I didn`t, but if I`d used another pattern who knows when they`d been done! At least now S will get them while it`s still cold enough to wear them.* I had some problems with sizing (S`s hands are smaller than mine) but I`ll spare you from the story.
*Now I know it`s full spring in London, flowers and all. But I think she`ll still have a couple of months suitable for Fetching. I`ve been freezing in England in May - and that was inside!
Lanka on Jaegerin Baby Merinoa (samaa kuin tässä postissa). Vaikka teinkin palmikko-osuudesta vähän ohjetta pidemmän, minulle jäi yli kerä lankaa jäljelle, mitä en lainkaan odottanut! Täytyy joskus tehdä toinenkin lahja tästä, koska tämä ei ole yhtään minun väriäni. Muutin päättelyn ihan tavalliseksi mallin picot-edge -päättelyn sijaan. Kokeilin koristella näitä linnunsilmäpistokukilla, mutta ehkä ne ovat kuitenkin nätimmät ilman vänkyröitä kukkiani.
The yarn is Jaeger Baby Merino (from this post). Although I made the cuffs a bit longer than in the pattern, I still have over a skein left. That I definitely didn`t think would happen! Have to make another gift from it, since it`s so not my colour. Other changes is the regular cast off instead of the picot-edge one. I tried to embellish these with some bird`s eye stitch flowers, but thought they are prettier without my wonky stitches after all.
Ja sitten kysymys kaikille äideille ja muille lapsiasiantuntijoille: Kummipoika on nyt kuukauden päälle vuoden, ja pari senttiä pienempi kuin tämän mallin 12 kk neule. Jos haluan, että neule on sopivahko kesällä, teenkö 12 kk vai 18 kk ohjeen mukaan? Tällä hetkellä 18 kk koolla on ympärysmittaa yli 8 cm enemmän kuin kummipojalla. Miten nopeasti tuon ikäisen lapsen vartalonympärys kasvaa? (Tiedetään, yksilöllistä - mutta jos joku osaa arvioida, olisiko tuo isompi koko ihan liian suuri, olisin kovin kiitollinen!)

Meet Jasper.
Jasper sai alkunsa vuoden 2005 lopussa tai vuoden 2006 alussa. Kaipasin jotain pientä neulottavaa joululahjaneuleiden jälkeen, ja Jasper oli juuri sopiva. (Tiesin melkein heti, että kyseessä on Jasper, ei Kate.) Neuloin melkein koko kissan päivässä. Huom. melkein.
Ja nyt päästäänkin Jasper-rukan kurjaan kohtaloon: Jasper vietti seuraavan vuoden kaapin pohjalla ilman raajoja. Aika noloa, koska korvat ja naama oli jo ommeltu vartaloon, napit silmiksi ostettu, ja ainoa, mitä puuttui, oli neljä kerrosta yhdestä jalasta. En osaa selittää, miksi kesti niin kauan tarttua Jasperiin uudelleen.
I started knitting Jasper (I knew right from the start I was knitting a Jasper, not a Kate - don`t ask me how) in the late 2005/early 2006. I wanted to knit something easy after Christmas presents, and Jasper was a good project. I knit almost the entire cat in one day. Almost.
And now I tell you why I call him poor Jasper: he was doomed to spend the entire year in the bottom of my closet, without limbs. Quite embarrassing, since all that was missing was four rows from one paw: I`d already attached the ears and sewn his face, even bought the buttons for his eyes. I really can`t explain why I didn`t finish him sooner.
Loppu hyvin, kaikki hyvin. Henkilökohtaisen kriisin jälkeen Jasper tuntee itsensä eheämmäksi kissana kuin koskaan ennen.
All`s well that ends well. After a personal crisis, Jasper now feels more complete than ever.
Jasper on neulottu Novitan jämälangoilla äidin varastosta (harmaa ja musta seiskaveikkaa, sininen nallea?) ja 3.5 mm sukkapuikoilla. Malli Jess Hutchinsonin Kate, Knitty talvi 2005.
Jasper kiittää Yogi-teetä ja Belle and Sebastian -yhtyettä. Molemmilla oli suuri rooli siinä, että Jasper löysi itsensä ja tuntee itsensä taas kokonaiseksi.

Jasper was knit with some Novita scrap yarns from my mother`s stash, on 3.5 mm dpn`s. The pattern is Jess Hutchinson`s Kate from Knitty Winter 2005.

Sain paljon mukavia lahjoja tänä jouluna, kuten söpön Pylones-termospullon, ihanaa hajuvettä, Tuutikki-mukin mukikokoelmaani ja Anna Kortelaisen kirjan Naisen tie - L. Onervan kapina. Käsityöaiheisia lahjoja oli yksi, nimittäin Fiskarsin ompelusakset - aiemmin en ole omistanut kunnollisia. Kotona odottaa vielä muutama paketti ystäviltä, mukavaa!
I got a lot of great presents this Christmas, including a cute thermos by Pylones, a bottle of perfume I love, a Tooticky mug for my Moomin mug collection and a book (about a Finnish author, L. Onerva, who was quite rebellious on her time). I also got small sharp scissors, which I really need for cutting threads and yarn. I still have a couple of packages from friends waiting at home - nice!
Muilla perheenjäsenillä ei ollut niin paljon onnea: tilasin kalenterin ottamistani valokuvista isille ajoissa, mutta (todennäköisesti jouluruuhkan takia) se ei saapunut ennen joulua Ifiltä. Sisko parka sai vain kortin jossa luvattiin huivi. Päätin neuloa siskolle huivin kuukausia sitten, mutta ensin en osannut päättää mallia ja/tai lankaa, ja sitten kävi hassusti, kun lankaa ei ollutkaan saatavilla tarpeeksi. Suunnitelmien muututtua ei enää ollut kylliksi aikaa (paitsi jos olisin neulonut 24 tuntia vuorokaudessa aattoon asti - ja olin muutenkin kyllin stressaantunut). Harmittaa siskon lahjattomuus, olemme läheisiä ja panostan aina hänen lahjaansa, haluan aina keksiä jotain erityistä. Ostamani lanka on luksuslankaa, ehkä se lohduttaa siskoa vähän sitten kun luovutan tekeillä olevan huivin hänelle.
The other members of my family were not so lucky: I`d ordered a calendar with photos taken by me for Dad, but (probably due to Christmas and all the orders) it didn`t arrive early enough, even though it should have. And poor sis got just a card with a promise of a scarf. Funnily enough, I decided to knit her a scarf months ago. But then I had some difficulties deciding the pattern and the yarn, and when I finally did, I couldn`t get enough of the yarn I wanted. After being compelled to change the plans, I just didn`t have enough time for knitting the scarf (or maybe I would have, if I´d knit day and night until Christmas Eve*, but I was stressed enough as it was). I feel real bad about this, sis and I are close and I like to put an extra effort for finding a perfect present for her. The yarn I´ve bought is luxury yarn, so I hope that`ll make her feel better when she finally gets the (now in the make) scarf.
Äiti sai kuitenkin Branching Out -huivin. Lanka on Butterflyta SNY-Tiinan elokuisesta paketista ja sopii minusta hyvin äidille. Väri on luonnossa kauniimpi, harmahtavan vihreä joka saa minut ajattelemaan hopeapajun lehtiä. Äiti kuuluu villa kutittaa -ihmisiin, joten puuvilla-viskoosisekoite on hyvä valinta: ei kutita ja sopii keväthuiviin.
Mum received her Branching Out though. The yarn came from my secret pal Tiina back in August and instantly thought it would suit Mum. The colour is more beautiful in reality: a greyish green, reminds me of the leaves of silver willow. Also, Mum`s one of those wool is itchy -persons, and this cotton/viscose blend won`t itch. It`ll make a perfect spring scarf.

Koska äiti ei käytä pitkiä huiveja eikä ole kovin pitkä itsekään, tein huivista aika lyhyen, n. 60 mm. Mietin, onko se liian lyhyt, mutta äidin neulomat kaulaliinat ovat yleensä samaa pituutta. Käytin Elizabeth Zimmermanin päättelyä (onkohan tälle joku muukin nimi?) jotta päättelykerros muistuttaisi luomiskerrosta.
Huivia oli kiva neuloa kun opin mallineuleen. Malli on kyllä vaikeampi kuinkuvittelin, sen sanotaan kuitenkin sopivan aiemmin pitsiä neulomattomille. Tosi nätti mallineule, voisin neuloa toisenkin niin kauan kun mallikerta on jotenkin muistissa.
As Mum isn`t one to use long scarves (and isn`t very tall) I made the scarf quite short, about 60 cm. I wondered if it`s too short, but the scarves Mum usually knits herself aren`t much longer. I used Elizabeth Zimmerman`s bind off so the bo round resembles the co round. Knitting this was fun once I got a hang of the pattern; it`s not as easy as I thought it would be, considering it`s recommended for novice lace knitters. And it`s really pretty, I think I´d like to make another as long as I still remember the pattern.

Saan luultavasti neuloa vielä nelinkertaisen määrän samaa mallikertaa. Seuraaviin päiviin kuuluu siis luultavasti paljon telkkarin katselua. Mutta ehkä vähän vähemmän herkkujen syömistä.
I think I`ll have to knit four times as much in the same pattern. So the next days will probably include more telly-watching for me. But maybe a bit less eating.
Vaikka tänä vuonna luulin aloittaneeni lahjojen tekemisen ajoissa, olen joutunut vähentämään itsetehtyjen lahjojen määrää joulun lähestyessä. Olen tosin enimmäkseen keksinyt vielä parempia lahjaideoita tilalle, joten en ole kamalan pettynyt. Lisäksi päätin olla stressaamatta lahjoista: lahjojen antaminen on minusta hauskaa, joten en halua pilata iloa hermoilemalla tekemättömien lahjojen määrästä. Matka vanhempien luo joulunviettoon estää sopivasti tekemästä viime hetkiin asti lahjoja (aina se ei ole estänyt, mutta tänä vuonna päätin olla laiska).
Although I got an early start with presents this year (or so did I think), I`ve had to cut back the amount of self-made gifts. I guess it`s ok - mostly I`ve found something even more suitable for the person in question. Plus I decided no matter what, I`m not going to get stressed. I really like giving gifts so I don`t want to spoil the fun by spending every minute before the holidays agonizing about un-sewn things. And as I want to get to my parents a few days before Christmas I really don`t have that many days left.
Yksi itsetehty lahja on jo päätynyt saajalleen, ja kuulin juuri, että paketti on avattu. L:n synttärit olivat 19. päivä, ja koska annoin vain yhden paketin, annoin L:lle luvan joko avata sen merkkipäivänä tai odottaa jouluun. Neuloin Fetching-kämmekkäät, kuten sovimme lokakuussa. Kämmekkäät valmistuivat kyllä jo melkein kaksi kuukautta sitten, mutta odottelin monta viikkoa sopivaa mielialaa lankojen päättelyyn (kuinka kauan siihen oikein voi mennä?!?) ja ennenkaikkea odotin, että saatavilla olisi yhtä aikaa sekä mannekiini että valoa kuvausta varten. Kuten kuvista näkyy, molemmat toiveet eivät toteutuneet yhtäaikaisesti... (Ja minulla sattui olemaan päällä mustaa tai valkoista - todella fiksua.)
One gift I`ve knit has already made it to it`s recipient, and I just heard it`s been opened too. L had her birthday December 19th, and since I gave only one present I told her she can choose whether to open it today or wait for Christmas. I knit her a pair of Fetching she requested back in October. I knit the mitts almost two months ago, but had to wait several weeks for the mood for weaving the ends in (how difficult can that be?) and, more importantly, having both light and someone modeling them. Unfortunately those things didn`t happen at the same time, as you can see from the photos... (And then I had to wear either black or white - how smart.)

L toivoi pidempää ranneosaa, joten neuloin palmikkomallikerran viisi kertaa kolmen sijaan. Neuloin myös muutaman kerroksen enemmän peukaloon ja ennen ylintä palmikkokerrosta. Omissa kämmekkäissä yläreunan rullautuminen on vähän ärsyttävää mutta ilmeisesti väistämätöntä* picot edge bind offin kanssa, joten päättelin sen sijaan ihan perinteisellä tavalla - picot edge bo on kyllä nätimpi.
L sanoo rakastavansa näitä, ja olen itsekin tyytyväinen. Lanka on pehmeää ja todella lämmintä. Palmikot toki näkyisivät paremmin vaaleammassa värissä, mutta mehukas punainen tekee kämmekkäistä vielä lämpimämmän oloiset.

L asked me to make the cuff a bit longer for her, so I repeated the cable pattern for five times instead of only three. I also knit a couple more rows for the thumb and before knitting the top cable round. One thing that`s been mildly disturbing in my pair is the curling on the top, which seems to happen to every pair with the picot edge bind off*, so I did the regular bo instead. I think the picot bo looks better, though. L claims to love these, and I`m satisfied with them myself. The yarn is real warm and also nice and soft - of course you`d see the pattern better in a lighter shade, but the rich colour makes the mitts feel even more warm, I think.
*I googled to see what happened to other people`s mitts, and found Fetching KAL while at it.
L siis tiesi mitä paketissa oli, mutta yritin vähän hämätä antamalla kovan paketin pehmeän sijaan - tykkään pakata lahjat niin, ettei niistä heti arvaa sisältöä. Vähän enemmän jännitystä saajalle. Sitä paitsi nämä näyttivät ihan mansikkahillolta pakattuna lasipurkkiin.:)
Of course L knew what she was getting, but I had to try and confuse her by giving a hard parcel instead of a soft one - I like packing gifts in a way it`s not easy to guess what it is. Makes it more exciting, you know? Plus these really looked like jam once they were in a jar.
Tulin juuri kotiin Pähkinänsärkijä ja hiirikuningas -baletin esityksestä (uudistettu versio Pähkinänsärkijästä). WOW! Olen ollut todella stressaantunut pari päivää (en nuku, en syö, en tee edes sitä mitä pitäisi) tehdessäni asioita jotka pitäisi ehtiä tehdä ennen Helsingistä lähtöä, joten ehdin jo katua lupaustani lähteä J:n kanssa balettiin. Mutta tämä oli juuri sitä mitä tarvitsin! Menimme vähän ennen esityksen alkua kysymään noutamattomia varauksia, ja saimme hyvät permantopaikat 10 euroa per lippu. Kaksi tuntia ja 20 minuuttia satumaassa, ja stressini oli (melkein) kokonaan poissa. Ja olen leijaillut fantasiamaailmassa loppuillan.
Olen nähnyt Pähkinänsärkijän ennenkin, mutta se esitys (Petipan koreografia) oli todella erilainen kuin nyt näkemäni, Wayne Eaglingin ja Toer van Schaykin koreografia. Tykkäsin tästä kyllä hurjasti, ja lapsikatsojille oli varmaan mukavaa, että esityksessä tanssimassa paljon lapsia.
I just came home from a performance of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (kind of updated version of The Nutcracker) and ...WOW! I`d regretted already for agreeing to go with J, since I was majorly stressed out for a couple of days (in a 'can`t sleep, can`t eat, can`t even do the things I should'-state) due to the amount of things to do before leaving Helsinki. But this was just what I needed! We went a little before the performance was to begin and asked for reserved-but-not-purchased -tickets, and got good seats for only 10 euros each. Two hours and 20 minutes of magical fairy-tale land later, my stress was (almost) completely gone, and I`ve been partly in a fantasy land the rest of the evening.
I`ve seen The Nutcracker before, but that performance (I think it was Petipa`s coreography) was quite different from this (coreography by Wayne Eagling and Toer van Schayk). I really loved this version too! There were many children performing in addition to adult dancers - that must be really nice for the kids in the audience to see.
Ei paljoakaan näytettävää, osittain siksi, että jatkuva tasaisen harmaa sää tekee edes keskinkertaisten valokuvien ottamisen mahdottomaksi. Tänään ei tuntunut tulevan valoisaa ollenkaan. Ehkä siksi tuntuu siltä, että kehoni on päättänyt talviunen olevan paikallaan: nukun koko ajan (toinen syy siihen, ettei ole mitään näytettävää) - riippumatta siitä, kuinka monta tuntia olen oikeasti nukkunut, voisin helposti herätä vasta puolilta päivin joka päivä.
Nothing much to show. November seems to make it impossible to take even adequate photos. Every day it`s a little bit more dark - today it felt like there hardly was any daylight. It might be because of the lack of light that my body`s decided hibernation is in order: I seem to spend most of my time sleeping lately. Like, no matter how many hours I`ve really slept, I could easily sleep til noon every day.
Branching Out on suunnilleen 55 cm pitkä pingottamattomana, mikä tarkoittaa että loppu häämöttää.* Ihminen, joka huivin saa, pitää lyhyehköistä huiveista ja on itsekin aika lyhyt. Aion neuloa vielä viitisen senttiä ja pingottaa huivin, katsotaan sitten pitääkö neuloa enemmän.
*Todellisuudessa olen neulonut enemmän, mutta olen myös purkanut aika paljon. En selvästikään ole vielä valmis neulomaan pitsiä ja höpöttämään kavereiden kanssa yhtä aikaa.
BO:n nykytila tarkoittaa, että talviunesta huolimatta joululahjatilanne näyttää melko hyvältä. Tosin minulla on taipumus kuvitella, että ompeleminen vie aikaa noin puolet vähemmän kuin se todellisuudessa vie. Pitäisi siis tehdä jotain ommeltavien lahjojenkin hyväksi, vaikka tällä hetkellä hartioihin alkaa sattua kun ajattelenkin ompelemista. Odottelen veronpalautusta ja toivottavasti Rovaniemeltä joulukuun alussa saapuvia harkkosaksia - en millään viitsisi laittaa niihin kolmeakymppiä juuri nyt (tosin sittenhän ne olisi aina, kun niitä tarvitsee) mutta toisaalta ne helpottaisivat elämääni tai ainakin yhtä lahjaprojektia.
Tietääkö muuten joku, mistä Helsingissä saisi kuivattua laventelia tms. joka sopisi tuoksupussien sisälle? Tarvitsisin siis enemmän kuin yhteen pussiin, joten toivon löytäväni sitä jostain irtomyynnistä.
Branching Out is about 55 cm/22 in long at the moment, pre-blocked.* Not that much to go, since the person I`m knitting it for doesn`t likes her scarves rather short. I think I`ll block it at 60 cm/23.5 in and see if I need to knit more. That means that despite all slacking around, I`m in quite a good place when it comes to Christmas presents - I hope. (Though I have this habit of thinking sewing takes much less time than it actually does, so I might want to start doing something about that as well. Only at the moment even thinking about sitting at sewing machine makes my back and shoulders ache.)
*I`ve actually knit more than that, but then I`ve also been tinking it - for a while it seemed like I didn`t make any actual progress. Note to self: I`m not ready to knit lace while chatting with friends.
Bloggaaminen on ihanaa: paitsi, että toisten blogeja lukiessa opin paljon uutta, saan neuvoja kun niitä tarvitsen. Paljon kiitoksia Zeskalle, joka ystävällisesti antoi vinkkejä pitsin neulomiseen edellisen postin kommenteissa (lisäksi erittäin nopeasti, kommentti oli tullut bloggaamista seuraavana aamuna)! Neuvoista oli todella hyötyä - ja ennen kaikkea aloin uskoa, että minun on mahdollista neuloa pitsiä. :) Niin ja kiitos myös Uhoavalle gnulle, jonka kommentin luin juuri ennen kuin tämän postin julkistin.

Kyseessä oleva henkilö on siis matkalaukun nimilappu, nimikortti on toisella puolella. Mokosta (tahtoisin olla siellä töissä jos nyt pakko** olisi olla jossain myyjänä - tai oikeastaan voisin muuttaa sinne) saa mäyriksen lisäksi muitakin koiria. Nyt tarvitsee vain päästä matkoille.

There were other dogs too, at least pug and poodle. Now all I need is vacation somewhere nice.

Viime viikko oli epätavallisen sosiaalinen - ainakin tämän sinkkutytön elämässä useiden ystävien tapaaminen joka ilta on epätavallista. Tästä syystä väriterapiasukka on edistynyt vain pari riviä, joten siitä ei ole kuvaa. Sen sijaan tarjoan teille kuvan minusta, jotta ette huomaisi, ettei täällä ole mitään neulottu.
Sosiaalisen viikkoni huipentuma oli lauantain elokuva-teemajuhlat, joissa olin pukeutunut Elizabeth Tayloriksi (Kissa kuumalla katolla -leffan tyyliin). Alunperin roolihahmon piti olla ihan toinen, ja tämä asu piti pistää kasaan kiireessä, joten jos en näytä Liziltä, syytän kiireessä hankittua halpisperuukkia.* Vieraiden joukossa oli mm. Last week was an unusual blur of social events - at least in this single girls life having several friends to see every evening is pretty unusual. That means the colour therapy sock has been knitted only a couple of rows, so no photo of that. I`ll show you a photo of me instead, because no doubt you`re all dying to see that! The peak of my social week was a movie-themed party on Saturday, where I was dressed up as Elizabeth Taylor (think Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Liz). Originally I had other plans for my character and had to whip this outfit together in hurry, so if I don`t look like Liz, I`m blaming the cheap last minute purchase wig.* Other people present were Holly Golightly, Olivia Newton-John and a less known member of the Corleone family, among others. *Which, by the way, was originally a devil wig - luckily I managed to remove red horns easily.
Jotain on sentään tullut neulottua. Kävin toissapäivänä Tampereella, ja koska väriterapiasukka ei yhdeksän lankakeränsä kera ole kovin hyvää matkustusseuraa, piti aloittaa jotakin uutta. Mukaan siis yksi SNY:ltä saamistani Butterfly-keristä ja Branching Outin ohjeet. Menomatkalla en neulonut kovin paljoa, ja paluumatkalla aloitin alusta (ensimmäinen yritelmäni ei ollut kovinkaan siisti) ja ehdin neuloa tämän:
I`ve knit something, though. On Monday (this week) I had to go to Tampere (a town only 176 kilometres form Helsinki) for a few hours. The colour therapy sock and the nine skeins of yarn I`m using aren`t that good company for travel, so I had to find something new to knit. So I picked a skein of Novita Butterfly my secret pal sent me and a printed pattern for Branching Out. On the way to Tampere I didn`t knit that much, and I started anew on the way back home (my first attempt didn`t look that good). This is what I knit:
Pendolino on tosi nopea, ja minä olen tosi hidas neulomaan pitsiä.
Those pendolino trains go really fast - and I`m a slow lace knitter.
En ole vielä varma, mitä tälle tekeleelle tapahtuu. Jostain syystä se ei minusta näytä yhtään BO:lta. Yritän ratkaista onko syynä a) lanka ei sovi tähän malliin b) pingottamaton pitsi näyttää aina kummalta c) en osaa neuloa pitsiä ja teen jotain väärin tai d) kaikki edelliset. Saatan kokeilla toistakin pitsimallia, koska lanka olisi sopivaa eräälle, joka saa minulta joululahjan ja jonka mielestä villa kutittaa (et sinä, sisko).
Tampereen reissulla tuli käväistyä Aili Jokisellakin (Lanka-aittaan en ehtinyt, mutta onpahan jotain odotettavaa seuraavalle Tampereen matkalle), mutta en oikein keksinyt hyvää tekosyytä ostaa mitään (!) - menin varmaan sekaisin langan määrästä. Tai no jotain ostin, mutta sitä en voi näyttää täällä, kun se liittyy ehkä salaiseen neuleystävään.
Niin ja SNY, KIITOS siitä ihanasta Nalle Puh -kortista! Olin tosi kiireinen silloin kun se saapui, ja kiittäminen unohtui sen takia, vaikka se on kiinni peilin reunassa mistä näen sen usein.
Don`t know what`s going to happen to this, though. For some reason it doesn`t look very much like a BO should, to me. I`m trying to decide if it`s because of a) the yarn that doesn`t give credit to the pattern b) the fact that this is non-blocked lace or c) I suck at knitting lace and I`m doing something wrong or d) all. I might give a try to another lace pattern as this yarn would definitely suit someone who`s getting a Christmas present from me and thinks that wool is itchy (not you, sis).
While in Tampere I managed to check out one of the yarn stores which is often mentioned in Finnish blogs. I didn`t buy anything (!) - I think I was a bit overwhelmed by all the yarn there. Oh, ok, I bought a little something, but it having possibly something to with my secret pal, I`m not going to show it here.
Viime viikonloppuna vanhempien luona sain vihdoin otettua kuvia Fetching-kämmekkäistä. Sunnuntaina minulla oli kerrankin saatavilla avustaja JA sää oli aurinkoinen (vaikkakin kylmä) joten pistimme pystyyn muotikuvaukset.
Last weekend I finally got to take some photos of my Fetching mitts. I had help AND it was sunny (though cold) on Sunday, so we arranged a little photo shoot.

Tykkään langasta (pehmeää!), tykkään väristä, tykkään mallista (mukavan helppo tutustuminen palmikoihin, ja nopea tehdä). Kämmekkäät vähän rullautuvat kämmenpuolelta käytössä, pohdin tekisinkö sille jotain. Jos minulla olisi hennommat kätöset, nämä varmaan pyörisivät kädessä, mutta nyt ovat sopivat. Jostain syystä toisen kämmekkään reunanystyrät (=picot bind off) erottuu selvemmin kuin toisen, mutta sille en jaksanut tällä kertaa tehdä mitään, halusin vain saada nämä valmiiksi.
Love the yarn (soft!), love the colour, love the pattern (it`s an easy intoroduction to cables, plus fast to knit). The mitts roll a bit on the palm side, I`m thinking whether I should do something about it. And if I didn`t have fairly big hands, these probably would be too big - now they`re ok. For some reason the picot bind off isn`t as prominent in the right mitt as the left one, but I was too eager to finish these to do anything about it.
En pääse vielä eroon tästä mallista, koska ystäväni L näki omat kämmekkääni, ihastui ja vihjasi, että voisi ottaa samanlaiset joululahjaksi. Myönnyin heti, koska olin itse suunnitellut tehdä hänelle parin. Ostin jo lankaakin, Austermannin Inkacoloria syvänpunaisena, ja luon parhaillaan silmukoita.
I`m not done with Fetching yet: my friend L saw these, liked them and hinted she`d love to have her own for Christmas. Since I`d already planned to make her a pair, I was eager to agree. I already bought some Austermann Inkacolor in deep red for L`s pair and am currently casting on.
Fetching-kämmekkäät ovat valmiit. Niistä ei kuitenkaan ole kuvaa, koska pidän niistä ja haluan kivan kuvan ja tarvitsen sen ottamiseen jonkun apua ja päivänvaloa yhtäaikaa, mikä saattaa olla melko haastavaa... Sen siitä saa kun asuu yksin. Tarkemmin kämmekkäistä myöhemmin.
My Fetching fingerless mittens are finished. I don`t have photos of them though, because I fancy them and I want to post a fancy pic of them, which means I need a) someone to take that pic and b) some day light and combining those two things might not be as easy as it sounds, considering I live alone. So more about them later.
Olen suunnitellut seuraavaa projektia ja sen lisäksi, että olen keksinyt kolme muuta projektia, olen kokeillut kuutta eri mallineuletta (rakastan tätä kirjaa!) ja päätynyt seitsemänteen, luultavasti. Täytyy vielä ottaa mittoja asianosaisista ja neuloa lopullinen mallitilkku.
I`ve been planning the next project and except finding three more things I want to knit RIGHT NOW, I´ve tried six different stitches and decided to use the seventh (I think). I still have to measure the recipient and knit the final swatch.

Funny, Cashsoft Aran is so soft that Ornati Filaghi baby yarn feels coarse. ...Yes, I can`t stop telling you how soft Cashsoft is!
Neulon palmikoita ensimmäistä kertaa elämässäni. Jos olisin tiennyt, ettei se ole tämän vaikeampaa olisin kokeillut jo aiemmin. Jotenkin se ajatus ylimääräisestä puikosta sai minut päättämään, että palmikkoneuleet ovat tosi vaikeita - tosin tuskin olen ihan kohta valmis neulomaan Aran-villapaitaa. (No, en edes osaa kuvitella käyttäväni sellaista, niin kauniita kuin ne ovatkin.) Mutta olen selannut The ultimate sourcebook of knitting and crochet stitches - kirjan palmikkomalleja ja suunnitellut kaulaliinaa...
I`m knitting cables the first time in my life and liking it. Somehow the thought of an extra needle made me decide cables must be super difficult - if I´d known the truth, I´d have given cables a try much earlier. Though it might take a while until I`m able to knit an Aran (well, I can`t imagine wearing one, anyway, as beautiful as they are). I´ve been searching The ultimate sourcebook of knitting and crochet stitches for cable patterns and thought about a scarf...
Tämä on siis alku toiseen Fetching-kämmekkäistä (kuvassa väri on liian harmaa, mutta kun ehdin kuvaamaan vasta töiden jälkeen). Cashsoft Aran on hiukan ohjeen lankaa paksumpaa, mutta halusin käyttää sitä koska se on niin ihanan pehmeää (ja ilmeisesti Knittyn kuva vihreistä kämmekkäistä oli jotenkin jäänyt mieleeni). Jos lankavalinta osoittautuu hirveän huonoksi, langalle on jo toinen kohde mietittynä.
This is a beginning for a Fetching fingerless glove (the colour in the pic is too grey, but I had time for photographing only after work). Cashsoft Aran is thicker than the yarn used on Knitty pattern, but I wanted to use it because it`s sooo soft (and probably because of the Knitty picture of green ones). If Cashsoft Aran turns out to be a bad choice, I´ve got another project for it already planned.
